Easy Morning Tea Ideas For Kids

My Tried and Tested Easy Morning Tea Ideas For Kids

Mornings can be a hectic time for families, especially when it comes to preparing meals that are both nutritious and appealing to kids. Finding the balance between health, fun, and simplicity can sometimes feel like a challenge; but to make your mornings easier and more enjoyable, here are some easy morning tea ideas that will ensure they get the nutrients they need.

1. Fruit Kebabs:

Encourage your kids to eat more fruit by threading colourful fruit chunks onto skewers. You can use a variety of fruits such as strawberries, grapes, pineapple, and melon. Serve with a side of yogurt for dipping to add a bit of protein.Ā

2. Hidden Oat Muffins:

Bake muffins using oat flour and incorporate various fillings in to the batter. These muffins are a great source of fibre and can be made ahead of time and frozen for convenience. One of our favourite recipes isĀ here.

3. Kids Grazing Plate:

This one might be a given, but chop up some vegetables like carrots, cucumber, and capsicum into sticks and serve with hummus or tzatziki. My kids also like me to add some slices of cheese, nitrate and preservative free ham or chicken, a sweet (like the muffins above) and even some fruit. Having options and controlling what they eat next makes it part of the fun!

4. Smoothie Bowls:

Blend together a variety of fruits and yogurt to create a smoothie base justĀ  Ā like this recipeĀ here. Then add your kid's favourite toppings, like nutsĀ and additional fruits, or maybe even a few choc chips for a treat.

Ā 6. Avocado Toast:

This is one of my kid's absolute faves and oh so easy. I like to use a wholemeal bread, but opt for whatever one your children love and if they enjoy added toppings like feta, it helops with a little extra protein!

4. Muesli Bars:

Bake homemadeĀ muesli bars likeĀ these with oats, nuts, seeds, and dried fruits. Cut them into fun shapes using cookie cutters for added excitement. Ā

Get Your Kids Involved

Involving your kids in preparing morning tea can make them more interested in trying new foods and understanding the importance of balanced nutrition. It pays to note down some of our easy morning tea ideas for kids, because the truth is that preparation with little helpers can be a bit chaotic, so we recommend keeping the actual recipes simple!

Here’s how you can get your kids engaged in morning tea preparation:

Grocery Shopping:

Take your kids along when you shop for ingredients. Let them choose what they want to include in their morning tea (or if you're like me, let them scroll through the online app haha). Research shows that involving your kids in important decisions like the food you shop can actually help with future food fussiness.Ā

Preparation:

Depending on their age, children can help with simple tasks like washing fruits, stirring ingredients, or arranging food on plates. This not only makes them feel involved but also teaches them valuable kitchen skills, which research also shows is important for their relationship with food and their development. Try these easy morning tea ideas above and let your little bears lead the way!

The Importance of Plating Up for Kids

Mealtime should be more than just about consuming food- it’s an opportunity to create positive associations with eating and foster healthy habits.Ā

When food is presented attractively, children are more likely to be curious and eager to try new things. One thing that my boys love, and actively seek, is their special "bear plates". And this sentiment has been echoed by many families who have shopped with us and love seeing their kids interact with their dinnerware.
