The Making of EcoCubs: Our Journey to 100% Plant-Based Kids Dinnerware:

Finding our Bamboo Dinnerware 'Unicorn'

Hey, I’m Anneliese
♡ Mum to three wild boys
♡ Registered Nurse
♡ Accidental small business owner

Caring for human health has always been a part of who I am, and as a mum that care naturally extended to the health of our planet too.

When I was pregnant with my second son in 2018, spending endless hours on the couch with hyperemesis (fun!), I stumbled on research that stopped me in my tracks:

Microplastics had been found in human waste- including in babies and even human placentas.

These tiny plastic particles are everywhere- in oceans, in our food, and in our homes. They’re linked to a long list of health concerns, and they leach from everyday items like food packaging, cookware, and even kids’ plates.

I looked around our house, and it hit me: there was plastic everywhere. I thought: Maybe it’s too late for me… but surely my children still had a chance!!

As any parent knows, the food prep never ends, so I figured an easy win would be replacing the plastic plates, dinnerware and cutlery with something safer. So off I went searching for an alternative…

And came up empty.

Turns out, most “bamboo” dinnerware on the market still contains 30–50% melamine. They’re not what they claim to be.

I said to my husband, “I’ve spent hours searching for something that doesn’t exist- it’s a (insert expletive) unicorn!”

He said without hesitation  "You should make it yourself".

Yeah, ok- sounds simple enough!

Or maybe not.

It took a year of obsessive research, hundreds of emails, and testing every material I could find- until finally! I had found a manufacturer using a corn starch-based binder, not melamine or plastic.

The unicorn was real!

I’d become an accidental business owner. I created a sustainable, practical, simple product - healthy for little bears and the planet, that I just had to share.

EcoCubs was born-

Australia's original range of 100% plant-based dinnerware!

I know that family life can be chaotic and eco isn’t always easy. Sometimes we need someone to help us make sustainable simple. That’s where I come in.

EcoCubs bamboo dinnerware is different:

plant based dinnerware

When you shop small and local with EcoCubs, you have the Anneliese guarantee.

We don’t do shortcuts or greenwashing.

We stand behind every product with FDA and CE certification and independent third party testing.

We’re here to give parents a real, trustworthy alternative for sustainable non toxic kids dinnerware, that doesn't have to compromise on convenience. Because we're also parents, and we want those things for our own bears too!

This obsessive labour of love will always be approached with the same care and determination that it started with.

I'm incredibly proud to have filled a real gap in the market- and now, to be expanding our non-toxic range with even more products families can trust, like our Stainless Steel Plates and Bowls (which we even tested ourselves with an at-home lead kit!).

Unless I'm confident that a product is 100% safe to use with my own boys and truly eco-friendly - I won't sell it. It's that simple!

Thank you for being here, for caring, and for choosing to do better- one small bamboo plate at a time!

For the love of our planet. For the love of our children.
