I received an email from a customer recently asking if our kid’s dinnerware contains any forever chemicals…
You might also have seen the headlines about “forever chemicals” popping up in everything from non-stick pans and air fryers to waterproof jackets and be wondering the same thing. So I thought it might be helpful to write a quick spiel about what these chemicals are exactly, and why we should care about them, especially when it comes to choosing our kid’s dinnerware.
Let's break it down...
What Are "Forever Chemicals"?
“Forever chemicals” is the not-so-catchy nickname for a group of synthetic substances known as PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances). They’re called “forever” because they’re incredibly resistant to breaking down in the environment and in our bodies. That means once they’re out there, they’re out there for a long, long time.
PFAS were originally designed to make things non-stick, stain-resistant, and waterproof. While that initially sounded fantastic, that convenience comes with a price (image courtesy of Clear Water Systems)

Why Are They Dangerous?
It’s probably pretty obvious that the problem with PFAS is that they don’t just stay in your raincoat or frying pan. They’ve been found in soil, drinking water, and even in human blood. Studies have linked them to a number of health concerns, including:
• Hormonal disruptions
• Immune system issues
• Developmental delays in children
• Increased risk of certain cancers
In short, they’re not the kind of thing you want anywhere near your family, especially when it comes to something as routine (and important) as mealtime.
How Do They End Up in Kid's Dinnerware?
Some types of plastic or coated paper products, especially those designed to be water or grease-resistant, can contain PFAS. That includes some kids’ dinnerware marketed as “durable” or “easy to clean.” And let’s face it: kids are messy, so that kind of dinnerware is tempting but it goes without saying, that’s not our jam!
Why EcoCubs Is Proudly PFAS-Free
At EcoCubs, we believe that safe, healthy mealtimes should never come with nasty chemicals. That’s why we’ve chosen to make our dinnerware from plant-based products and stainless steel- materials that don’t require PFAS to be effective.
The materials we use are derived from renewable sources like corn starch and sugarcane, and our bamboo is sustainably harvested and naturally antibacterial.
While our stainless steel dinnerware is the highest food grade quality you will find. It’s non-toxic, free of any harmful chemicals and plastics or additives.
Together, they make a safe, durable, and sustainable kids dinnerware alternative to traditional plasticware- without the chemical baggage like PFAs.
